Bridge (Phase 6 – Sheep may safely graze)

Bridge (Phase 6)
Edition of 5 (1 Available)
Pigment print on 800 mm x 1260 mm image on 900 x 1360 mm on Bright White Cotton Rag Archival Paper.

This piece layers 500 photographs of bridges photographed on the 7th August 2012 – on a rare instance of snow in Johannesburg allowing for the wonderful, and unusual for JHB, diffuse light. ‘Phase 6’ may, or may not, refer to the 6th mass extinction event. The ‘Sheep may safely graze’ reference to the soprano aria by Johann Sebastian Bach of 1713 and part of the cantata ‘Was mir behagt, ist nur die muntre Jagd’, BWV 208 (Only the lively hunt pleases me), also known as the Hunting Cantata – may be ironic, or not.

Dated ~ October 2012
