The Weight of the Pose (10-Minute Study)

The last drawing from Sunday’s life-drawing session here. After a day of painting, I felt like taking a step back to something more immediate. A single piece of willow charcoal, a sketchbook page, and 10 minutes (after a false start on the 15-minute pose).

As the last pose of the day, there’s a special exhaustion that sets in. I think the drawing reflects something of the strain the model was under to hold this, a weight that felt shared by everyone in the room. Sometimes the most honest marks come when you’re tired and the defenses are down.
