Artithmeric is a print-on-demand platform for independent comic book creators. Artists upload their pages, choose formats, publish to their own storefront, and sell worldwide — no minimum orders, no upfront costs. The platform handles printing, imposition, and fulfilment.
I built the production pipeline: the part that takes uploaded artwork and generates correctly imposed, print-ready PDFs integrated with the fulfilment chain. It’s been running for over eight years under the One Thread umbrella.
The name is a portmanteau of art and arithmetic. Yes, the spelling is intentional.
Lens: paintWithScalpel
paintWithScalpel is a studio method — precise, intentional, no excess. In drawing it means 1px borders and no drop shadows. In production tooling it means: generate exactly the right output, every time, with no manual intervention.
Imposition is inherently precise work. Page n lands on the correct press-sheet position after folding, or the whole print run is wrong. There is no room for ambiguity and no reward for cleverness. Just correct output, reliably. That turns out to be a surprisingly satisfying thing to build.
