André Clements is an artist who tries not to use words like ‘post-digital-painterly-abstraction’ to describe the interaction between gestural mark-making and calculation that permeates much of his work.
André holds a Bachelour of Arts degree (1995) from the University of Pretoria, where amongst others Carl Jeppe, Diane Victor as well as the German Bauhaus tradition impacted on André. Initially content to explore and learn as widely as possible André has studied in fields as diverse as industrial psychology and computer science, practice of the latter being the most prominent vector in his career. Since 2004 André has been increasing his focus on the realm of art. He cites the David Krut organization and artists like Nathaniel Stern and private collectors as having provided invaluable stimulation and support for the development of his artistic practice. André has not presented a solo exhibition yet.
